The B.I.R.D. project (acronym that stands for Bio-architecture, Inclusion, Energy saving and Domotics) has rapresented a new standard of excellence for public building. This experimental project brought to the construction of 52 flats for Elderly peoplesenior citizens and a services centre.
The aim of getting high energetic performances was achieved by combining various technologically-advanced building solutions with architectural considerations.
The technical installations are based on radiant panels connected with geothermal heat pumps, whereas a large photovoltaic field covers the buildings’ energy consumption. The system which integrates the envelope with the installations allowed to get the certification “Class A+ CasaClima” and “Class A+ C.EN.ED. Lombardy”.
